| Beyond the northland

From 20 November to 31 December 2020, MuchART Projects, in collaboration with Que Dao Gallery (Paris), presented the exhibition North of the North.
The exhibition was notably presented at the IUNII New Sensory Experience Space. In contrast to conventional gallery or museum contexts, the setting proposed a renewed encounter with aesthetic experience.

Human imaginings of unknown territories are often shaped by strangeness and an aura of the mysterious. Extreme and inhospitable landscapes are frequently accompanied by imagined presences—supernatural, or even non-human forms of life. Even the pioneers and explorers who venture into these vast and uncertain regions are not immune to the disorientation, hallucination, and projection that arise from such conditions.
Perception of form constitutes one of the earliest frameworks through which humans approach and interpret the unknown. What, then, was the initial image of the northern territories—wilderness, cold, ice, or an endless sea? Prior to direct encounter, such knowledge is assembled through fragments, extrapolated within a space beyond experience and empirical understanding.
This exhibition brings together the practices of three emerging artists, each engaging with their own “northern” journeys. Their works negotiate the intersection between physical geography and imagined landscapes, dissolving the fixed boundaries of the world as it is conventionally understood.
